Ryan Reisinger | Post Doc

Ryan's work looks at how the biophysical oceanographic environment influences the behavior and distribution of marine predators and how we can model and forecast these aspects of their ecology in our changing seascapes. He is beginning to explore the applied and broader implications of this work – how do we use this information about marine predators for conservation, management and to understand broader ecosystem pattern, process and status? To do this, Ryan uses data from technologies including animal biologging and remote-sensing, which he analyzes with highly quantitative tools like machine learning. Geographically, he focuses on the Southern Ocean (Antarctic and Subantarctic).

At BTBEL, Ryan is working on a circum-Antarctic analysis of humpback whale tracking data to uncover patterns of habitat use among different populations. He also continues to work on the Retrospective Analysis of Antarctic Tracking Data project.
