Mimi Chavez | Undergraduate Assistant

Hi, my name is Noemi but I like to go by Mimi. I've always been passionate about animals and the ocean since a young age. I pursued my interests in community college and decided that I wanted to study marine biology. At UC Santa Cruz I have had the wonderful opportunity to help out in field work with northern elephant seals and audit videos of tagged humpback whales.
I got involved in the lab through a summer internship with CAMINO. I was able to assist PhD student Arianna Torello on her project studying the vocalizations and behaviors of humpback whales in Antarctica. I am very interested in learning more about the ecology and behavior of marine mammals and hope to continue to study that in the future.
